REAL ENGLISH WITH REAL NEWS-LMFAO

LMFAO ON THE SUPERBOWLL

Here is the new delivery of the series of news that I’m preparing for my students.

On this occasion it is related to the musical group: LMFAO.

My students love music and they also like this group. So I try to link their real world with the class.

The structure is as usual:

  • News
  • Vocabulary (key words to understand it)
  • Questions about the text.
  • Activities to link the real life with the structures of the language (This can be varied to match your needs)

REAL ENGLISH ACTIVITY- WORKING WITH REAL NEWS

I have been working on a series of real news, trying to modify them to turn them into ESL activities.

As you can see in the picture, your students will work with real English. They will be motivated to carry out the activity because the news will be related to their insterests (sports, music…). It is a way of making real use of the language they will read the text not to extract a structure but to understand what they are being told.

This news format will be like this:

  • News
  • Vocabulary (key words to understand it)
  • Questions about the text.
  • Activities to link the real life with the structures of the language

This one is related to the Real Madrid vs Atletico de Madrid game

ASSESSING YOUR STUDENTS OR EVALUATING THEM?

Do you really know the difference between evaluating and assessing?

They are two different contents, and I have seen teachers using them randomly. But they are not in fact quite the same. And it is important to know the difference in order to use them appropriatelly.

Let’s see the difference:

Assessment: In this, you will be required to determine how well your students are learning, gauge their performance, and measure the appropriateness of the content and the effectiveness of the methods and techniques utilized in your classroom.

Evaluation is intrinsically more complex than writing a test, giving it to a group of students, scoring it, and handing it back with some sort of letter grade. Indeed, it involves a combination of procedures and designs that not only gauge students’ work but also help them grow in the process.

NOT CLEAR ENOUGH??  Try this   ↓

When you assess your individual students, you gather information about their level of performance or achievement. Evaluation is comparing a student’s achievement with other students or with a set of standards.
